Rabepes (Rabeprazole sodium) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by acting on the parietal cells of the stomach. It is widely used in the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It is a prodrug that becomes activated in the acidic environment of gastric parietal cells and irreversibly inhibits the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) and blocks the final step of acid production. Besides, it stimulates gastric mucin production (main component of gastric mucus which gives protection to stomach against gastric acid). MUPS is the latest technology which combines the power of both tablets and pellet-filled capsules in one single dosage form.
