Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth.

It is effective against many gram-positive, gram-negative, and atypical organisms, including pathogens causing respiratory tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted infections.
