Valkyte is an oral antiviral preparation containing Valganciclovir Hydrochloride USP 450 mg. Valganciclovir is an oral prodrug of ganciclovir and is converted to ganciclovir after administration. It exerts antiviral activity by inhibiting CMV DNA polymerase, thereby suppressing viral DNA replication.
Valkyte is particularly important in the management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in immunocompromised patients, with a major role in solid-organ transplant recipients, especially kidney transplant patients. It is used for CMV prophylaxis and treatment, depending on the clinical setting and applicable prescribing guidance.
