Xelopes (Omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces gastric acid secretion and is commonly used in the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. Omeprazole is a prodrug that is activated in the acidic environment of the stomach. It irreversibly inhibits the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells & blocks the final step of acid production.
